The Hawkesbury City Pipe Band Inc. has formed a youth development band for boys and girls aged between 8 to 18 who can play bagpipes, snare drums or the flourishing tenor drum to a basic Grade 4 level. Members develop in the Youth Band through instruction from tutors who have contest experience at a Grade 1 level. The Youth Development Band tutors take band members through a systematic tutorial programme which includes basic and advanced rudiments and musical theory application applicable to a pipe band performance. All members of the Youth Development Pipe Band are taught and encouraged to read music fluently as we believe music is truly an International language.
You can be a member of your current pipe band and still belong to the Hawkesbury City Youth Development Pipe Band. Speak to the Youth Band Manager to find out how you can participate in the Youth Development programme and be involved with various practice sessions the band runs during school holidays using local, Interstate and Overseas tutors as well as competition trips away, interstate and overseas.
The Hawkesbury City Pipe Band Inc. is a community based organization which raises much of the funds needed to exist through, public engagements, BBQ’s and other forms of group fund raising. Parents and Guardians of Youth Band members are welcomed into the organization to assist with the continued fund-raising that helps provide uniforms and instruments that their child will need to perform with. This, we believe, helps build a strong “family bond” and we encourage an environment where children and parents are involved in a great hobby and competitive activity together. Being part of an organization that encourages children to participate in a community activity by way of performance and friendly competition is a life skill we believe helps to define the adult your child may become. We are committed to nurturing the values of dedication, practice, teamwork, respect, responsibility, community service and tradition– always in a fun and encouraging atmosphere.
