Iain McLennan

I grew up at  A place called Oamaru in the South Island of New Zealand

My parents always told me… Never go out and disgrace your self in a manner that would reflect upon you or the family name

On weekends I    Usually tidy up around the house doing lawns etc. That’s after we take Jenevieve and Kathryn (my daughters) to netball on Saturday and Soccer on Sunday and try to fit in any piping stuff. We often catch up with family and friends to have a Bar-B -Q and watch some rugby.

Friends say I am… Fun to be around, pretty up front and honest.

I play the …….The Bagpipes

I started playing pipes/drums when   I think it was about 7 to 8 years ago. I would say I was just one of those part time learners trying to teach my self not thinking I would join a band. Now I think about it, sorry to my neighbors and family

My First Lesson was where and with whom    Over the phone with my dad

Favourite Tune/s   Morag Of Dunvegen (Dad always played this for my sister Morag) and the Bells of Dunblane

Least Favourite Tune/s   Any tune that’s played too fast for my fingers to get around

What inspired you to learn the pipes/drums?  (My Family) My Father was a very good piper and with mum and dad emigrating to NZ from Scotland and eventually most of their family coming out. We had a very Scottish up bringing with a lot Scottish music and piping going on all the time, so I would say it always been in my blood

I started in Hawkesbury City Pipe Band …  January 2008

How did you become involved with HCPB?  I followed my tutor from the previous band I was with

Previous Pipe bands  Blacktown

Other non-pipe Bands I have played with   Just John and Marie in Hyde Park after a pub session

What’s the best part about being in this band?    I think we have a very loyal group and are going to bond well. Not only in developing good friendship, but also bonding in a family way which will come in handy when the pressures is on us at comp days.

What do you do when you aren’t playing the pipes/drums?   I like to play golf. Taking the kids to their sport and are always keen to participate in the casual beer or have a bar-B-Q with friends

What else is in your drum or pipe case?   A Hip Flask and a Rastafarian hat for some strange reason

What do you never leave home without   My wallet, Phone, and have a clean pair of undies on
